Résumé : 

Palm est un jeune homme sans histoire qui tente de joindre les deux bouts sans aucune perspective d’avenir sur une île dont il a déjà fait le tour des dizaines de fois. Abandonné par une mère dont il n’a qu’une vague image et par un père devenu majordome d’une famille très controversée, Palm mène une vie de solitude jusqu’au jour où il reçoit un appel de son père lui demandant de venir travailler avec lui. 

Il devra particulièrement s’occuper de Nueng, le nouveau patriarche de sa famille après que son père se soit fait assassiner sous ses yeux. En contrepartie, Palm recevra une éducation prestigieuse et la possibilité d’un avenir plus serein. 

Engagé dans sa mission et son désir de changer le cours de sa vie, tout ne se passe pas comme prévu pour les deux hommes alors que Nueng se montre réticent à la présence de Palm. Elevé dans une vie de luxe et de naiveté, couvé du monde, Nueng semble avoir du mal à s’adapter à la réalité qui l’entoure bien qu’il essaie de s’y faire au mieux alors que Palm tente par tous les moyens de le protéger, Parfois même au péril de sa vie et particulièrement de ses sentiments… 

Mon avis : 

Je n’avais pas énormément d’attente concernant cette histoire notamment car le résumé de base semblait sans énormément de promesses et comme beaucoup d’autres séries avec une intrigue pseudo thriller autour d’une mafia. Et pourtant… 

À mon sens, la série se déroule en deux parties. La première ou les protagonistes sont au lycée, où ils sont obligés de vivre ensemble et de s’apprivoiser et la deuxième, celle qui m’a fait vibrer et retenir mon souffle.

Dans ce drama on découvre deux personnages très différents avec pourtant le même désir : celui de faire couple, celui d’être à deux dans un monde qui, différemment mais avec presque autant de brutalité, ne leur à rien épargné. 

Ici, c’est les montagnes russes. Les protagonistes se disputent, se déchirent et font face à des différends évidents de classes, d’ambitions et de compréhensions de l’autre qui semblent inconciliables. Malgré tout, les deux amants qui ne veulent pas réellement en être finissent par s’aimer au point de pouvoir donner leur vie l’un pour l’autre, d’une manière réaliste et attachante. 

Tout du long et particulièrement dans la deuxième partie, la direction de la photographie est absolument magnifique. Les paysages, les cadrages et les séquences longues et intimes sur la plage ou dans le restaurant en font des moments d’une proximité toute particulière qui amène totalement le spectateur avec le couple.

J’ai également beaucoup aimé le pairing secondaire, bien que discret, qui apporte une touche différente dans les personnalités que l'on voit à l’écran. Petit coup de cœur perso pour Chopper, incarné par Perth. Un personnage tout en complexité, coincé entre son éducation, son cœur et sa raison. 

Les points négatifs selon moi sont minimes et difficiles à évoquer sans spoiler mais j’aurais par exemple aimé un développement plus approfondi de la relation mère/enfant entre Palm et sa génitrice, rendant le déroulé plus touchant. J’aurais aussi aimé voir davantage la complexité familiale qui entoure Nueng, notamment autour de sa mère qui me semble très lisse. Un ou deux épisodes de plus pour entrer complètement dans le côté émotionnel que le réalisateur (Tichakorn Phukhaotong) a cherché à transmettre n’aurait pas été de trop, mais ça reste quelques points qui n’impactent que légèrement la série.

À noter que l’un des deux scénaristes est, à mon sens, l'un des meilleurs si ce n’est le meilleur de sa génération : Ninnepinta (Last Twilight, Only friends, Bad buddy, Magic of zero, Our skyy 2…). Pas très étonnant finalement de retrouver une telle qualité dans ce drama.

C’est un 8.75/10 pour ma part !

Summary :

Palm is an unremarkable young man trying to make ends meet with no prospects for the future on an island he's toured dozens of times. Abandoned by a mother of whom he has only a vague image and by a father who has become butler to a very controversial family, Palm leads a life of solitude until the day he receives a call from his father asking him to come and work with him.

In particular, he will have to take care and look after Nueng, the new patriarch of his family after his father was murdered in front of him. In return, Palm will receive a prestigious education and the chance of a brighter future.

Committed to his mission and his desire to change the course of his life Palm say yes but not everything goes according to plan for the two men, specially while Nueng is reluctant to accept Palm's presence. Brought up in a life of luxury and naivete, sheltered from the world, Nueng seems to have trouble adapting to the reality that surrounds him, even though he tries to make the best of it, while Palm does everything in his power to protect him,

Sometimes even at the risk of his life, and particularly his feelings...

My opinion :

I wasn't expecting much from this story, especially as the basic summary didn't seem very promising like many other series with a pseudo-thriller plot based around a mafia. And yet...

In my opinion, the series unfolds in two parts. The first, in which the protagonists are in high school, forced to live together and get to know each other, and the second, which had me thrilled and holding my breath.

In this drama, we discover two very different characters with the same desire : to be a couple, to be together in a world that, differently but with almost as much brutality, has spared them nothing.

This is a roller-coaster ride. The protagonists argue, tear each other apart and face obvious differences of class, ambition and understanding of each other that seem irreconcilable. Despite all this, the two lovers who don't really want to be end up loving each other to the point of giving their lives for each other, in a realistic and endearing way.

Throughout, and particularly in the second half, the cinematography is absolutely magnificent. The landscapes, the framing and the long, intimate sequences on the beach or in the restaurant make for moments of special closeness that bring the viewer right up close to the couple. I also really liked the secondary pairings, although discreet, which bring a different touch to the personalities we see on screen. My personal favorite is Chopper, played by Perth. A complex character, caught between his upbringing, his heart and his reason.

The negative points, in my opinion, are minimal and difficult to mention without spoiling you, but I would have liked, for example, to have seen a more in-depth development of the mother/child relationship between Palm and her genitress, making the story more touching. I'd also have liked to see more of the family complexity that surrounds Nueng, particularly around her mother, who seems very smooth to me. One or two more episodes to fully enter into the emotional side that the director (Tichakorn Phukhaotong) sought to convey wouldn't have been too much, but these remain a few points that only slightly impact the series.

Note that one of the two scriptwriters is, in my opinion, one of the best if not the best of his generation: Ninnepinta (Last Twilight, Only friends, Bad buddy, Magic of zero, Our skyy 2...). So it's hardly surprising to find such quality in this drama.

It's a 8.75/10 for me !
